Inverkip Fibre Broadband
It’s true, Fibre Optic Broadband is slowly and surely reaching the homes of Inverkip.
And no, you don’t have to be on the Main St to get it, many areas “further up the hill” including Langhouse Road, Swallow Brae etc, now receive it.
Don’t think that they have to dig up the road to install a fibre optic cable to your house to benefit ! – They simply connect you via the conventional phone cabling to the nearest fibre optic junction box.
OK, it’s true that because of this “technical compromise” that you ain’t gonna get the blistering 200mbps speeds that many users in central Greenock can see, but “Yours Truly” is very happy with his 40mbps “down speed” & 13mbps “up speed”, which is a gigantic improvement over the paltry 3mbps & 0.25mbps speeds previously seen !
Here are the results from today’s speedtest at Broadband Speed Checker.
Pretty good ehh ?
Some areas still don’t have it available, such as the houses up at Hill Farm., but don’t be dismayed if you are one of them, did you notice the recent roadworks at the top of Cullen Crescent ? – and the shiny new metal enclosure ! – Yip, the word “on the street” says that this is the latest installation of a fibre optic junction box, so sit tight, it’s coming your way very soon !
Unfortunately the official word from Openreach is that the Hill Farm estate is not currently being considered for fibre broadband as all the telephone lines are EO exchange only lines which means that the houses are connected to the Wemyss Bay exchange directly and not through a roadside cabinet. Openreach have not given me an explanation as to why they have built the box on Cullen Crescent when they cannot supply fibre broadband to about 200 houses in the Hill Farm estate.
Well we finally got fibre broadband this week….18 months after the fibre box was built in Cullen Crescent!
That’s interesting Alan, do you know what the change in response from BT was due to?
Have they upgraded the exchange for instance? I know many people up there are desperate for “FTTC” (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet), so that they can enjoy higher speed broadband.
Hi Robbo – you don’t say where the other people are but the whole of the Hill Farm estate appears to be FTTC enabled now. You can do a check on the Openreach availability check site – https://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/superfast-fibre.aspx
you can then contact your service provider to order fibre broadband…its that easy. I got it a week after ordering.
